1. Don’t accentuate the negative
Looking at photographs of your 17-year old self in a pair of skin-tight jeans has never done anyone any favours! Instead of dwelling on what you were, visualise instead what you are going to achieve. Pick a date that is a practical distance away, such as a birthday, anniversary or milestone. Working with your personal trainer, aim forward towards that date, and enjoy the success of being able to set yourself a new goal. You’ll be a huge leap closer to realizing a healthy lifestyle in the long run.
2. Train with a Buddy
Everything is easier when you have someone to share it with. Personal training sessions with a friend can provide a level of support, encouragement and even competition that many people thrive on. You’ll be less likely to skip out on scheduled exercise hours if you have someone to encourage, and who will spur you on in return.
3. Write it Down
Many personal trainers make use of written records to chart progress and see where strengths and weaknesses lie. For example, a food diary will help pinpoint which areas of your lifestyle might need attention, whilst keeping track of your exercise sessions, calories burned and time spent working out can provide encouragement, allowing you to see how and where you have improved.
